Historic Improvements Approved For The Montalvo Arts Center
San Jose – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved funding historic improvements to the Montalvo Arts Center located in Saratoga. The grant of nearly $22,000 will fund the Villa Doors and Lanterns Restoration Project.
“Montalvo is a community resource we all treasure,” said County Supervisor Joe Simitian in whose District the site is located. “I’m so glad the County is able to continue the tradition of supporting the historical maintenance of these buildings. The integrity of Montalvo’s architecture greatly enhances the visitor’s experience.”
The project includes the exterior rehabilitation of the historic Villa doors and two iron lanterns on the western façade of Villa Montalvo. The project was recommended for funding by the County’s Historical Heritage Commission as part of their competitive grant program.
Reasons cited for support of the project include its role in preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of Santa Clara County and the Montalvo Arts Center’s demonstrated capacity to complete the grant project, as evidenced by the organization's successful completion of previously funded projects at Villa Montalvo.
