Dear Reader,
Prior to my election to the Board of Supervisors in 2012 I had already served as President of the Palo Alto School Board, Mayor of Palo Alto, a member of the California State Assembly and the California State Senate and served an earlier term on the Board of Supervisors. As you might expect, that service and experience informed my subsequent efforts on the Board of Supervisors, as did my life experience, career background and formal education.
The work I’ve pursued during my time back on the Board (2013-2022+) also reflects the input of my constituents and the demands of our times. Of course, governing is by its nature a collaborative process, so much credit and thanks go to the colleagues, staff, and advocates who were indispensable to the success of these efforts.
What follows here, for the most part, are press accounts of the initiatives I pursued during my first two terms back on the Board, plus the first two and a half years of my third term, categorized by subject matter. These accounts have been collected, in part, as a way to inform my current and future staff of earlier efforts which now shape my work; also as a part of the County’s effort to archive the work of the Board and its members for future reference. This collection is not, however, exhaustive, simply because not all of our office’s policy initiatives were covered by the press. Simply put, the work we do is inevitably influenced by the work we’ve done. What follows is just a portion of that work.
