CSA Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills Back-to-School event aims to equip students
SAN JOSE – After a difficult year of remote learning, efforts to prepare students to return to school are perhaps even more important this year than ever before.
That’s why Community Services Agency’s (CSA) upcoming “Back-To-School” event is so welcome, said Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian. Scheduled for July 24th, the event aims to help local families access school supplies and other forms of assistance.
“Every student deserves to come to school equipped with the resources they need to succeed, regardless of income,” said Simitian, who helped sponsor this year’s event. At Simitian’s request, the County allocated $5,000 to CSA to help purchase additional school supplies and gift cards for distribution at the event.
Though CSA hosts a “Back-To-School” event every year, the need for these services, as well as services like rental and food assistance, has grown significantly during the pandemic, according to Tom Myers, the organization’s Executive Director. As a result, Myers said, the organization expects a high turnout at this year’s event.
“We know this past year has been extremely hard on our community, and we are so pleased that Supervisor Simitian’s office is partnering with us to provide important support for families as they get ready to go back to school. We are also thrilled to provide CalFresh sign ups on the day of the event to help get families even more ongoing support.”
Event attendees will receive information about how to access County services, including CalFresh as well as MediCal health insurance and rental assistance programs, and El Camino Health will provide onsite COVID vaccinations throughout the day.
The event will take place on July 24th from 10am to 3pm in the parking lot of CSA’s headquarters at 204 Stierlin Road in Mountain View. Simitian will be on hand for the program opening to help welcome families. Pre-registration is requested. To sign up, call (650) 968-0836. Every attempt will be made to accommodate walk-ins on the day of the event.
