County Approves Sale of Lincoln Park to City of Los Altos

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved the sale of Lincoln Park to the City of Los Altos.

“This has been a long time coming,” said County Supervisor Joe Simitian, who noted, “The issue had been kicking around for four or five years when I came back on the Board in 2013. I’m glad we finally got it done.”

Los Altos Mayor Jeannie Bruins agreed, noting: “We thank the County for supporting our efforts to bring this gem home, and make it officially part of the City’s park inventory. And, we look forward to seeing the utility undergrounding move forward.”

The 4.49 acre park is located on the west side of Foothill Expressway between San Antonio Road and West Edith Avenue. The County has leased the park to the City of Los Altos since 1965 for $1 a year.

The park was sold for $1,020,000, which was committed to the County’s Road Fund. A small portion of the land is leased separately to the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, and is not included in the sale to the City.

The park also includes overhead electrical wires, which are a prime candidate for “undergrounding.” Under today’s agreement, the County will transfer the necessary credits from PG&E to cover the costs for the City if the City decides to pursue undergrounding.

“It’s not every day that we get a triple win,” said Simitian. “But I think this deal will help everyone involved. The Chamber of Commerce keeps its home. The City takes ownership and control of the park, along with the opportunity to underground utilities. And the County has a few dollars more to invest in our roads, which desperately need our attention.”
