County and community partners provide vaccinations at Palo Alto pop up

A joint effort between Santa Clara County, University AME Zion Church, and Roots Community Health Center vaccinated roughly 520 community members at a pop-up clinic in Palo Alto today, according to Supervisor Joe Simitian’s office. 

The event – walk-up, no appointment or ID-required – was hosted by and located at the Church, with the County providing Moderna vaccine, and Roots Community Health staff administering the first dose shots. Several hundred second doses were also administered to participants who had earlier attended a pop-up vaccination clinic at the Church in March.  

“It’s immensely satisfying to help bring these vaccines directly into the community,” said Simitian, who attended the event. “There are folks who need the vaccine and want the vaccine, but may face challenges getting an appointment, or getting to one of our County sites or their healthcare provider. Doing this in the community can also provide those who have questions or hesitations a more familiar and welcoming venue.” 

Additional pop-up events focused on underserved communities in the North County and West Valley are in the works, Simitian said. “This kind of collaborative effort is what it takes to serve those most at risk. I’m delighted to see it come to fruition, and a big shout out to folks at the Church, Roots, and the County for this latest effort.”
