Supervisors Appoint Steve Baron to Child Abuse Council
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian today announced that he had appointed Steve Baron to the County Child Abuse Council.
“Steve has decades of experience dealing with child abuse, trauma, and family counseling,” said Simitian. “His knowledge and expertise is going to be invaluable to the Council.”
The Child Abuse Council was formed in 1980 as a means of coordination between numerous public and private agencies which provide services to child abuse victims and their families. The Council provides a forum for interagency cooperation and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors about where the County’s funds are needed.
Baron, who lives in Cupertino, has spent his career investigating child abuse and caring for the children it affects. He has worked as a probation officer in the Juvenile Probation Department and a child and family therapist, and spent 22 years in Family Court Services doing child custody mediation and investigations. He also taught for 28 years in the Graduate Counseling Psychology Department at Santa Clara University and has previously served on the County Social Services Advisory Commission, as well as the Domestic Violence Death Review Committee.
“Since my retirement in 2004, I have been actively involved in various activities aimed at preventing and protecting children from child abuse, neglect and trauma, and serving victims of domestic violence,” said Baron. “Serving on the Child Abuse Council will allow me to continue this work, and help the County provide victims and families with the resources they need.”
“Our Child Abuse Council looks out for some of the County’s most fragile and vulnerable residents,” said Simitian. “Steve knows the system – what works and what doesn’t. He’ll be a real asset to the Council.”
