SAN JOSE – “Be a friend. Tell a friend.” That’s the message from Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian, who’s alerting local residents to an “easier than ever” opportunity to get vaccinated.
With the arrival of warm weather, easing restrictions, and an increasing return to socialization, some Santa Clara County residents are still searching for a COVID vaccine to protect themselves and their loved ones as they start to re-enter the community. But not all those who want appointments have had an easy time getting them.
Simitian said he hopes the easy availability of drop-in vaccine appointments at the County-run vaccine site in Mountain View will help to reach some of these folks.
“Getting a vaccine in Mountain View has never been easier. Folks can simply drop by the site and request a shot without the hassle of making an appointment in advance,” said Simitian, who represents the City of Mountain View where the County site is located. “I urge folks to take advantage of this opportunity and get out and get vaccinated in June so we can all enjoy a safer summer.”
“Convenience is key,” said Simitian, in commenting on, “the challenge of getting the last batch of folks vaccinated here in our area.” Simitian noted, “This is easy as it can be. Close by, no appointment, no cost and plenty of parking now that most folks have been vaccinated.”
Through June 30th, the Mountain View Community Center site will be offering drop-in COVID-19 vaccines every day, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm.
The site is centrally located in Mountain View at 201 S. Rengstorff Ave (just off Central Expressway), and easily accessible from all five North County cities: Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Sunnyvale and Mountain View.
The vaccines are free and available to anyone age 12 and up. No insurance is required, and recipients do not have to live or work in the County.
Recipients can schedule their second dose appointments at the same time as they receive their first.
“We’ve come too far, been through too much, to ease off now,” said Simitian. “With a little more effort we really can reach herd immunity and just crush this virus.”
Simitian encouraged those who’ve already gotten their shots to reach out to their friends and family to share this information: “Many of us who’ve had our shots know someone who hasn’t. Please, be a friend; tell a friend.”
