Simitian Appoints Yan Zhao to Saratoga Cemetery District Board of Trustees

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian today announced the appointment of Yan Zhao to the Saratoga Cemetery District Board of Trustees.
“Yan really has a sense commitment to her community,” Simitian said. “She’s someone who wants to serve, and who’s shown that she has the ability to effect real, positive change. Her land use planning experience as a member of the Saratoga Planning Commission these last eight years is a real plus for the District.”
The Saratoga Cemetery District was created by voters in 1927 to provide affordable burials for residents and property owners in the District. It oversees the maintenance, management, and preservation of the Madronia Cemetery, a 12.5 acre parcel located within the city of Saratoga. The District covers the city of Saratoga, as well as parts of Monte Sereno and unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County.
Zhao served previously on the Saratoga Planning Commission for eight years, and has organized community events throughout Saratoga, including the Lunar New Year galas at Hakone Gardens and the Saratoga Rotary Art Show.
A resident of Saratoga, Zhao has a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley. She has worked in the semiconductor industry for over 20 years.
“As a wife and working mother raising three children here in Saratoga, with our wonderful schools and parks, I’m dedicated to the natural beauty and identity rooted in our community,” Zhao said. “Our Cemetery is a key part of that identity, which is why I think it’s so important that we preserve its beauty and integrity.”
“Cemeteries are fixtures of our communities, landmarks that we pass down from generation to generation,” said Simitian. “Madronia Cemetery is a place of remarkable beauty, a place that captures both individual memories and our collective history as a community. We owe it to the future to protect and preserve that.”
