Santa Clara County Hosts Holocaust Remembrance Day

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian is inviting community members to attend the County of Santa Clara’s Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony, “Confronting the Holocaust:  American Responses.”  This special event will include testimony from two exceptionally resilient survivors, Eva Maiden and Tom Jacobson.

“This yearly commemoration is ultimately about the triumph of a people in a time and place where hope seemed impossible,” said Simitian.  “And it’s about our willingness to face up to our own human failures, as well as our achievements.”

Survivor Eva Maiden is author of Decisions in the Dark: A Refugee Girl’s Journey, and passenger on the last ship to leave Italy before the United States entered WWII.  Tom Jacobson, one of the youngest survivors on the ill-fated SS St. Louis, is a life-long civil rights attorney.  Archbishop Mitty High School students will contribute presentations, as well.

The event is open to the public and parking is free in the County lot.  A reception with refreshments will follow the ceremony, hosted at the following time and location:
