County Convenes Special Hearing On Elections Process
PRESS ADVISORY
PALO ALTO – At the request of County Supervisor Joe Simitian, the Finance and Government Operations Committee is convening a special hearing on Wednesday, January 28th, to discuss issues relating to the County’s Registrar of Voters office (ROV) and the November 2014 election.
Committee Chair Simitian and Vice-Chair Ken Yeager will review the processes, procedures and technologies that may have impeded the timely delivery and communication with the public of the vote tally. They also will discuss potential private sector assistance with the ROV’s operation, possible remedies for candidates whose ballot statements were not printed, and weigh the option of moving to an all vote-by-mail system.
“This has been a recurring challenge for the County,” said Simitian. “It’s time we look for some long-term solutions.”
