County Supervisors recognize Alyssa Lynch upon her retirement following 31-year career in education

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors recently recognized Alyssa Lynch upon her upcoming retirement as Superintendent of the Metropolitan Education District (MetroED). It’s a milestone she achieved after 11 years at MetroED and more than three decades in public education, specifically Career Technical Education (CTE).

“Thank you for everything you’ve done in these 11 years to make MetroED a place where students enjoy getting their hands dirty and diving into the nitty-gritty of things; a place where students can discover what they're passionate about and kickstart meaningful careers,” said County Supervisor Joe Simitian, who authored the commendation to honor Lynch. “And thank you for empowering our young people, not just to fill jobs but to succeed and thrive in them.”

During her tenure at MetroED, which operates the Silicon Valley CTE Center, the largest career technical education center in Northern California, and Silicon Valley Adult Education, Lynch paved the way for MetroED's conversion from direct state funding to the Local Control Funding Formula and secured more than $15 million in grant funding, benefiting students and programs.

Under Lynch’s leadership, MetroED, in partnership with the County, established programs in Electrical Vehicles/Automotive Services and Nursing Careers, both of which launched in August 2023 with significant interest from students.

“I give credit to Alyssa for seeing the real-world demand in the emerging electrical vehicle sector, and thinking, ‘How do we prepare our students with practical, hands-on skills to prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow?’ said Simitian. “Alyssa saw the growth in demand for health care workers, and asked ‘How can we be part of the solution?’”

“It has been an honor to lead this great district over the past 11 years,” said Lynch. “I am grateful for the partnership with our school districts as well as our partnership with the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to develop and maintain cutting-edge programs for our community.”

Lynch’s remarkable 31-year career in education includes working for the Santa Clara County Office of Education for nine years and the Mission Valley Regional Occupational Program for 11 years. She has been active with local organizations, including the San Jose Chamber of Commerce, Work2Future, and the Santa Clara County School Boards Association.
