In March 2020, the Board of Supervisors approved a sweeping eviction moratorium aimed at protecting tenants and small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The urgency ordinance applied countywide (including in all fifteen incorporated cities and towns), unless a city had passed a measure/provision that was more stringent than the one approved by the Board of Supervisors. The eviction moratorium was extended multiple times, and again in March 2021 for small businesses. California’s statewide eviction moratorium remained in effect until July 1, 2022.
